I don’t know about you, but I used to usually ignore the product registration cards… they asked too many questions and I actually had to send in the postcard (though postage was free).
I have started to register my products… mostly because I can do it online now. I can type faster than I can handprint in those boxes, and I don’t have to go to the mailbox to drop off the postcard.
Tonight, I went to get my mail and I saw a small yellow “Jiffylite” padded envelope. The return address only said “Strong Recall Services” and “Safety Replacement Part” under the address. I had no idea where it came from. I thought it was for my car since what other product would have a “safety recall”. I thought to myself how was I supposed to replace something in my car…
I opened the envelope as I walked back to my apartment and was surprised to find that the package was from XM Satellite Radio. They had sent me a free replacement battery due to a possible issue with the current one. I had no idea about a recall so had no expectation or request for the battery.
I was impressed that they took the trouble to send the battery without me requesting it. I was also glad that I registered my portable XM radio so they knew where to send the replacement battery.
