Back when I decided to get a cat, I did a lot of research so I would know what I would get myself into. One of the articles I came across was Ten Reasons why Two Kittens Are Better Than One
- You’re saving two lives instead of one.
- One kitten can become lonely
- They help each other burn off energy.
- Fewer behavior problems with two kittens.
- They act as pillows for one another.
- Having two kittens is insanely fun.
- They will each have a friend for life.
Those are the ones on the list that I’ve found applied to my cats.
You’re saving two lives instead of one.
While looking for a pair of cats at shelters, it was a great feeling knowing I would help save two lives. Not just that, the adoption of two cats opens up space for two more cats.
One kitten can become lonely
I work long hours and it is comforting to know that my cats have each other to keep company while I am away.
They help each other burn off energy.
They chase each other and play-fight so they don’t need me to entertain them. I love petting them and playing with them a little bit but I couldn’t provide the same level of activity that a kitten would need.
Fewer behavior problems with two kittens.
Although I think they sometimes conspire to do naughty things (and warning the other when I approach), they are overall good cats. One of the problems with only cats is they don’t know how it feels to get bitten hard or scratched. Since my cats scratch and bite each other, they know to control themselves with each other and consequently with me.
They act as pillows for one another.
Some of the most endearing moments is seeing Mr Darcy & Mr Knightley cuddled next to each other. It’s even better when they’re cuddling on top of me while I’m lying on the couch.
Having two kittens is insanely fun.
It seems that cats take themselves seriously but that makes some things they do even funnier. Since I know they’re not hurting each other, I love watching them play-fighting. I think part of the fascination is that it looks so rough but they’re not hurting each other. Mr Darcy has a tendency to swat at Mr Knightley’s tail… like when he’s on top of the coffee table and Mr Knightley passes by underneath, with his tail sticking up.
They will each have a friend for life.
I think it’s so cool that they’ve been together since birth and will have each other to keep company for as long as they live.
